Lifting Operator Training interventions

The training that is provided can be divided into five main categories, namely Engineering (artisan training), Processing (smelting), Lifting Operator (LOPT), Safety and Earthmoving Equipment. Training can be given at more than one level in respect of most categories. Engineering courses, for instance, are offered at apprenticeship, learnership, skills programme, short course or Section 28 levels.

MCD has the necessary evaluation facilities (RPL) to advise companies on the gaps in the training and development of both new and experienced artisans and therefore help them to fill these gaps and bring them up to the correct level of competence.

Training is currently offered in the following disciplines:

Lifting Operator Training

MCD currently provides TETA accredited Lifting Operator Training in the following fields:

  • Forklift trucks - Codes 1 - 3 & 11
  • Overhead cranes - Codes 30 - 31
  • Mobile cranes - Code 32
  • Truck mounted cranes - Codes 33 - 40 & 43

MCD Training Centre was accredited as a Training Centre for Lifting Machine Operators by Government Gazette Notice 834 of 1992 published on 18 February 2005. The accreditation was authorized by the Chief Inspector of Occupational Health and Safety, Department of Labour.
